Talent Development Tuesday
Building success in talent development – one thought at a time.
Value-driven decisions
“Decision-making is easy when your values are clear.”
– Roy Disney
When values are clearly defined, tough decisions become easier, especially in complex environments.
In a new blog post on our website, our thought leader partners Brent Snow and Sean Murray of 10,000 Feet explore how Nike’s new CEO used this approach upon rejoining the company in September. Elliott Hill immediately made it clear he would refocus the organization on its core mission – serving athletes:
“When we put athletes at the center, we create the right discussions, debate, dialogue, and ultimately arrive at the best decisions — for consumers and our company.”
In doing so, Hill set the frame at Nike for every decision going forward. (This is called “framing the decision” in Decision Mojo – a learning laboratory for improving decision-making.)
Hills’ athlete-centered clarity will certainly give focus to future deliberations and decisions within Nike. For all leaders, the message is clear: Cultivating a work environment where your particular mission and values are deeply understood provides a needed touchstone for decisions that will drive your organization’s success.
