Developing T-Shaped Leaders
In this short video, Swee Cheang Lim of the National University of Singapore’s Institute of Systems Science describes a new generation of leaders that will need to possess strong business acumen and people skills (the horizontal) along with their discipline competence (the vertical). The result is the “T-Shaped” leader.
Lim’s specialty is the IT arena, but his insights benefit leaders everywhere. Example: Don’t force people with reticent personalities to create vast horizontal skills. These “small-hat T” leaders, by working in teams, can be just as effective as their “big T” counterparts.
