A podcast transformed: Introducing the Talent Development Think Tank
The podcast has continued to grow month over month, week over week, we have more and more people tuning in, different thought partners from the industry, and it’s really building sort of a movement where people are feeling more connected.

"Over the past 12 months, we have been excited and overwhelmed by the support and interest generated from our Talent Development Hot Seat podcast hosted by Andy Storch," said Jonathan Hodge, president and C.E.O. of Advantage Performance Group. "This is a fabulous opportunity to bring that community together in one place and hear from industry thought leaders as well as each other regarding the unprecedented change we are facing in the talent development space."
The Talent Development Think Tank is being organized by Andy and Advantage Partner Bennett Phillips. At Philips's urging, Storch started the Talent Development Hot Seat podcast in May 2018. In its first year, the podcast featured nearly 100 guests and had more than 50,000 downloads.
"Initially it was a way for me to connect with a lot of talent leaders out there in the marketplace and learn from them," Storch said. "I thought, if I can make these connections, it would be beneficial to me and of course I'll share that out there, and if anybody listens that's great ...
"And what's happened is the podcast has continued to grow month over month, week over week, we have more and more people tuning in, different thought partners from the industry, and it’s really building sort of a movement where people are feeling more connected. It all started with the podcast, which is all about learning, growing, networking, and that’s what the event’s going to be about as well – bringing people together to connect, to learn, and to grow."
How a random roommate assignment at a conference ultimately forged a friendship, a podcast, and the Talent Development Think Tank ...
As Phillips tells it, the story of the Talent Development Think Tank is one of friendship and of a shared belief in the multiplying power of networking and collective intelligence. The two met in early 2011 at the annual conference of the company they had both recently joined, BTS.
After being randomly assigned as roommates in the hotel, we quickly became friends over a few icy runs down the mountain in the Italian Alps (conditions were not great), some questionable food (the resort buffet had horse meat), and a couple of pints of beer (much better than the skiing conditions or the food)," Phillips said.
Fast forward almost 7 years later, and the entrepreneurial young men decided to join their complimentary skillsets (Andy is exuberant and ambitious; Bennett is cautious and detail-oriented) to see what new value they could bring to the world of corporate Learning & Development.
A veteran podcaster (see The Andy Storch Show, formerly known as The Entrepreneur Hot Seat), Andy welcomed Bennett’s challenge to start a new podcast.
Though their skills and work styles differ greatly, the two share a passion for being connectors. "Much of this idea was driven by our belief that the true power of networking is not in how many people you can connect with, but how many people you can introduce to one another," Phillips said. "The podcast gained popularity quickly, which set off a natural progression towards a new idea – 'Let’s gather these wonderful people together' (guests on the show and listeners alike)!"
The two are committed to creating a conference like no other by focusing on interactivity and experiences to harness the collective intelligence of everyone in attendance.
In addition to four keynote speakers, the Talent Development Think Tank offers break-out sessions on disruption by design, treating employees like customers, microlearning, and talent development for a new generation, interactive workshops on diversity & inclusion, and agility in learning strategy, and a tech cafe to showcase artificial intelligence, virtual/augmented reality, big data, and other cutting-edge learning technology.
"Advantage is proud to help sponsor this event organized by two of our key partners and hope that everyone reading this will consider joining us and your colleagues to explore the opportunities that lie ahead,” Hodge said.
