One of the lead columns in yesterday’s Wall Street Journal felt especially resonant to those of us at Advantage. In “You Have Only So Much Time. Are You Using It Right?“, author Rachel Feintzeig writes that after 2 life-changing years, decisions about how we spend our time feel much weightier, and people are still readjusting their life and work priorities like never before.

The pandemic and a number of other dramatic news and life events of the more recent past have us all reflecting and making adjustments to how we choose to spend our time, setting in motion in what seems like a permanent, world-changing shift.

At the heart of our work at Advantage, helping organizations develop great people, we understand that great leaders and the people they inspire can’t do their best work without deep ties to their purpose, their core values, and their mental and physical well being.

To that effect, late last week, our CEO Jon Hodge made a difficult decision to postpone a booked-to-capacity event (rescheduled for July 28) introducing the Collective Genius simulation until a key team member can fully recover from a significant health challenge (and the prognosis is happily excellent).

“For those of you whom we’ve had the pleasure of working with over the years, you know we take our Core Values very seriously and the health and safety of our team, as well as our partners, is a high priority for us as an organization. We know you all share this dedication within your own teams and appreciate your understanding that we regretfully choose to postpone next week’s event,” he wrote to those who signed up to attend.

In this time of reflection and readjustment, it’s nice to know we don’t just teach those values. We live them.
