Talent Development Tuesday
Building success in talent development – one thought at a time.
An inclusion infusion
“Smart teams will do amazing things, but truly diverse teams will do impossible things.”
–Claudia Brind-Woody–
Can playing a game help make you more inclusive? What if that game could help you reconsider how you would respond in a given scenario from a typical day on the job? What if it helped you realize that a response you considered to be inclusive or at least neutral, well, isn’t?
The Inclusive Leader, an award-winning experiential learning program gaining worldwide appeal, defuses uncomfortable issues through the power of play by exposing teams to awkward situations, difficult conversations, and even everyday situations we might not realize are not inclusive. It helps leaders practice building an inclusive mindset by exercising their thought processes and infusing them with practical actions and suggestions toward a more inclusive path.
At Advantage Performance Group, we’re celebrating an Inclusive Leader initiative that recently won a coveted 2021 Brandon Hall Group bronze award with California-based software giant Synopsys, Inc.
Advantage Partner Bennett Phillips, along with the program’s co-developer Brent Snow and the Synopsys L&D team headed up by Cynthia Sierra, successfully delivered an in-person pilot program, won over some skeptics, then did a 2020 pivot mid-stride to help reinvent their learning journey for the virtual space and global participation (they have 14,500 employees across more than 30 countries) that, as you might imagine, has vastly enriched the dialogue there.
It’s a great story, one we’re repeating in other initiatives as we continue trying to do our part to help organizations develop great people who can create a more inclusive world, game by game.
