Talent Development Tuesday
Building success in talent development – one thought at a time.
Bots in the C-Suite?
“Fasten your seatbelts; it’s going to be a bumpy night.”
– Bette Davis as Margo Channing in All About Eve
Just when you think perhaps you’ve seen it all, out comes another article or survey, in this case today it’s both, that makes you realize we’re all riding a rocketship of change.
Today’s New York Times ponders a seemingly impossible future: If A.I. Can Do Your Job, Maybe It Can Also Replace Your C.E.O.
It’s not science fiction. This is already happening, the article says, at least in theory by “a few successful companies” that are beginning experiments with the idea of outsourcing leadership to artificial intelligence.
And executives apparently aren’t all that surprised.
Some believe as much as 80% of executive functions can be successfully performed by AI. And, the article notes, a 2023 edX survey found that more than half of them expect just that:
“While executives believe the C-Suite is least likely to be affected, it’s still remarkable that 56% anticipate their company’s executive-level roles will be completely or partially replaced by AI,” says the 2023 edX report available online here.
Can you imagine?
While AI can significantly enhance efficiency, we believe the world will always need exceptional human leaders for the critical 20% of skills that AI cannot replicate. These skills, rich in uniquely human nuances, include shaping an organization’s culture and embodying its values—skills we can help organizations reinforce long-term.
