Talent Development Tuesday
Building success in talent development – one thought at a time.
Building resilience
“2021 will be the year of transition.
Barring any unexpected catastrophes, individuals, businesses, and society can start to look forward to shaping their futures rather than just grinding through the present.”
– McKinsey & Company
(The next normal arrives: Trends that will define 2021—and beyond)
Looking ahead, we’re more than ready to start moving past the harsh realities that 2020 delivered, uninvited, to our doors and toward what McKinsey & Company is calling “the next normal.”
That 2021 in general was met with a sense of unbridled optimism (for a few days, at least) despite the awfulness of its predecessor, gives credence to the power of hope and resilience.
“Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul,” the poet Emily Dickinson wrote around 1861 in timeless words that are a perfect fit for 2021. Resilience, however, takes some work.
Here are a few resources for building resilience in 2021:
- Stay on top of the trends – McKinsey & Company’s 2021 report is a good place to start.
- Learn from the past – HR analyst Josh Bersin says these 5 lessons from 2020 will carry organizations forward in 2021
- Take care of yourself – Self care isn’t selfish. Stephanie Meriaux, a wellness coach at TaskHuman, shared a mindfulness exercise called Sunlight & Shadows with us at a recent event. You can use it for yourself or with your family or your team to create perspective, spark rich discussion, or build psychological safety.
- Focus on the positive – Here are 10 Tips to Stack Your 2021 Positivity Deck from a writer at Forbes, who reminds us that grass grows through concrete.
2021 is ours to create. Let’s do this!
