Talent Development Tuesday
Building success in talent development – one thought at a time.
Developing female leaders
“The most significant barrier to female leadership is the actual lack of females in leadership.”
Safra Catz, CEO of Oracle
Here’s the problem: While the research is clear that diverse organizations can consistently outperform homogenous ones, most company leaders are still overwhelmingly white and male. What’s being done to move the needle toward a more diverse and inclusive leadership landscape?
We’ve got a great story about a global media and digital agency working hard to do just that.
The challenge: Like many companies during the COVID pandemic, this agency wanted to retain its women in leadership roles who were challenged by lockdowns and home schooling. They also wanted to accelerate their efforts to develop high potential and high performing female leaders while supporting them with resilience tools to address burnout.
The participants: The pilot targeted 20 high potential and high performing mid-level female managers across 4 markets: Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the U.S.
The solution: Harvard Professor Linda Hill kicked off their learning journey with a keynote from her highly acclaimed, researched-based management classic Being the Boss: The 3 Imperatives for Becoming a Great Leader.
Next, they all started using a self-directed, habit-building, social mobile learning app filled with concepts and techniques from the book, with quick activities and interactions they could do in the day-to-day flow of their work.
Along the way, they attended some reinforcement and personal coaching sessions, seamlessly blended into the company’s existing leadership development program for women and mentorship platform and delivered virtually across the globe.
The program was made possible via a team effort between Advantage Performance Group and two of our thought leader partners, the company Dr. Hill co-founded, Paradox Strategies, and the mobile technology company 1st90.
The results have been nothing short of amazing, with 100 percent of participants indicating their overall satisfaction, several of the participants being promoted to higher-level roles, and many of them sharing the importance of the program in quickly being able to perform at a higher level and obtain the resources they needed to lead their team’s success.
