Talent Development Tuesday
Building success in talent development – one thought at a time.
Help them see how they show up
Earlier this year, we partnered with the Cultivating Leaders Center of Excellence to study high-potential leadership programs at top companies around the world. Researchers Richard Hodge and Jeannie Taylor released key findings in their white paper 5 Truths and a Lie About High-Potential Leadership Programs.
One of the 5 truths is that the most successful programs help high-potentials see how they show up as leaders. Self-awareness is a key element of emotional intelligence, yet it’s something most of us need help with. While 95 percent of people think they’re self-aware, only 10-15 percent of us actually are, according to research by Tasha Eurich.
Hodge and Taylor found that while most organizations they talked to do have programs in place to help high-potentials develop “executive presence” or “authentic leadership,” only a handful are using data about an individual’s EQ to guide development, even though EQ data is easy to obtain and track.
