Learning in the flow of work

He is a public speaker, educator, analyst, and coach to HR and business leaders around the world, and recently Josh Bersin shared his thoughts on the future of HR and learning in the flow of work as a recent guest on the Talent Development Hot Seat podcast:

“The paradigm of the world today is we’re living in a stream. We’re living in a stream of content, a stream of emails, a stream of meetings, a stream of information…

“And so learning can’t be a big box, sort of like a brick. It’s got to go into the stream.”

Rather than relying on an outdated LMS or a content-heavy LXP, Bersin says the most successful organizations are taking a more holistic approach and creating places for capability-focused learning.

The idea, he says, is “rather than think about your solution as a bunch of courses and programs, which is a part of the solution, think about it as a whole tapestry of developmental activities and programs around a set of capabilities.”
