Sinking, swimming, or winning together

“Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.”
Henry Ford

We love a good story, and we’ve got a new success story from one of our clients that we want to share with you.

Woodard & Curran is a science, engineering, design-build, & operations company specializing in water and environmental projects. Based in Portland, Maine, the company has a top priority of investing in its people along with other lofty goals of leaving the world a better place through economic, environmental, and social impact.

Earlier this year, they wrapped up a custom learning journey for current and future senior client managers with a goal of solidifying the Woodard & Curran approach to sales regardless of what business unit the sale is coming from. The journey involved a realistic, custom-designed, competitive simulation, a renowned guest speaker, and a focus on creative thinking and collaboration.

The learning kicked off with an in-person session in Tampa, Florida, followed by more training and coaching online and over video calls through the year, and wrapping up with a second in-person session in Los Angeles this past March.

By all accounts, it was a great success. One of the participants, Daryl Baltazar, described it like this:

“Many of my team members are natural leaders, competitors, strong personalities, and successful in sales and their careers; thus, we all had our own way of doing things, interpreting information, and creating a game plan for success…”

“Being thrown into a sales challenge together without working together in the past was one of the most difficult, stressful, exhilarating, and educational experiences of my professional career. It also bonded us and made me feel I could rely on any of my salespeople to help create a plan of action and ultimately be successful in any future sales opportunities. Being in a competitive situation with my team – sinking, swimming, or winning together – was a memorable part of the training.”
