Talent Development Tuesday
Building success in talent development – one thought at a time.
Take a hike
It’s becoming clear that one of the biggest challenges we face in this pandemic is its relentlessness. What we hoped would be over and done with has become a long and winding road.
Yet, in the workplace, the pandemic is a paradox, bringing with it “skyrocketing” productivity and engagement, according to the well-known HR guru and data analyst Josh Bersin. We’re hyper-engaged digitally, he says, but hyper-stressed emotionally.
So we’re getting more done, but we’re stressed out. And we’re tired. Bersin suggests making rest and “fatigue management” a priority for August, and he offers some great tips for doing that in preparation for a resilience workshop launching in September at the Josh Bersin Academy. Here are some of our favorite fatigue-fighting ideas for August that you can carve into any workday. What are some of yours?
- Take a hike.
- Ride your bike.
- Walk around the block.
- Take a closeup photo of some flowers.
- Take a closeup of a bird or a bunny or other wildlife in your area.
- Find a place to stretch out and watch the clouds shift.
- Write a note or send a card to someone for no reason other than to brighten their day.
- Pay for the order behind you at the drive-through.
- Make a list of everything you are grateful for. Tape it to your monitor.
- Make a list of some things you are worried about. Tear it up.
- Draw a picture (the less artistic the better) illustrating a favorite quality of someone you love. Tape it to the ‘fridge.
- Close your eyes. Breathe in and breathe out 5 times before you open them again.
- Binge-watch or listen to the highlights from our free webinar series on leadership (special access for our readers. No registration is required!):
