Talent Development Tuesday
Building success in talent development – one thought at a time.
The joys of clarity
“The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.”
Helen Keller
There is nothing like an eyesight challenge to bring your thoughts into sharp relief.
Advantage Partner Francine Smilen, based in New York, recently shared how having cataract surgery in both of her eyes cleared up her vision and also helped her see her role in a bright new light as someone who is actually in “the vision business.”
“While I was not allowed to work, I did think a lot about the joys of clarity: seeing things with fresh eyes (literally) and how we in the talent development business do this for our clients.
“I am not unlike the individual contributor who is newly promoted to leader: they stumble along until we provide them with the skills to navigate in their new role. Or the under-performing sales person who shifts from ‘telling’ about their products to asking customer- focused, strategic questions and sees the light! Or the business leader who finally understands how their decisions impact the revenue of their business: eyes open wide!
“On an enterprise level, at Advantage Performance Group we are masters at helping our clients create a line of sight (really, that’s what we call it!) between their learning investments and the business impact they can expect.
“Until now, I have never seen myself in the vision business. However, there is nothing like the increased confidence and competence that come with clarity, at work or on the streets of New York. Thank you for allowing us to ‘clear things up’ for over 30 years!”
Meanwhile, this past Sunday, May 1, Advantage CEO Jonathan Hodge marked the beginning of our 33rd year with a heartfelt post on LinkedIn:
“While I’ve only been here 6 of the previous 32 years, I am grateful to not only be included in a rich legacy but to be part of the team who continues to evolve our business towards the future. Today I celebrate everyone connected to Advantage – past, present, and future – who make our amazing work possible!”
At Talent Development Tuesday, we’d like to second that emotion and celebrate you, our readers. Thank you for welcoming us into your inbox.
