Talent Development Tuesday
Building success in talent development – one thought at a time.
The power of failure
As basketball icon Michael Jordan famously said:
“I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times, I’ve been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”
Jordan’s hard-won mastery is both an inspiration and a lesson in the power of failure. As talent developers, how do we help our most promising leaders learn from failure without putting the business at risk?
The answer is by providing them with opportunities to practice and opportunities to fail – and fail often – in a simulated environment, ideally one that closely matches their real-world challenges.
Business simulations, interactive games, and virtual reality provide the critical context necessary for risk-free yet effective learning in business.
To achieve success, fail fast, fail often, and fail safely! Need some inspiration?
