Talent Development Tuesday
Building success in talent development – one thought at a time.
Transforming leaders for the future
You have to move from focusing on ‘OK, what’s my vision and how do I get people to follow me to the future?’ Instead, leading innovation is about getting people to co-create that future with you.”
Dr. Linda Hill, Harvard Business School Professor,
Faculty Chair, Leadership Initiative, and Founding Partner, Paradox Strategies
It’s no secret that our post-pandemic world is dramatically different than it was “B.C.” – before COVID. Vast changes, many of which have been long overdue, are helping to shift the way we work and the way we treat one another. At the same time, there has also been a fundamental shift in the way leaders lead.
Dr. Linda Hill, a Harvard Business School professor and founding partner of Paradox Strategies, an Advantage thought leader partner, has been researching and teaching leadership at Harvard for decades. This shift, she says, requires leaders of the future to make “a challenging yet essential personal transformation” away from relying on formal authority as their source of power toward a style that enables diverse talent to collaborate, experiment, and learn together. (Read more in her article in Harvard Business Review.)
This shift is reflected in many of our newest leadership development learning experiences, including the Collective Genius simulation and a new leadership journey from BTS called Being a Leader, as well as in one of our most popular learning experiences, the Multipliers simulation. Multipliers author Liz Wiseman recognized early on in her research that great leaders know how to be catalysts to draw out the best work in others.
